Jobs

The company I work for, BB&T, announced layoffs this past week. And the company that supports the software I manage at BB&T laid off people this week, including my account manager. It's going to be a tough year career-wise. And it frankly makes me even more thankful just to have a job given the state of the economy, and how close this is hitting to home. My best friend's husband lost his job close to Christmas, and that's been very, very difficult for her family.

Last year was a tough year for me at BB&T. I got a promotion and moved into a newly created position. But I was separated from the rest of my team geographically and had a really hands-off boss. I like having freedom to chart my own course at work. But my boss was a little too hands-off and I often felt like I was floating out to sea without a paddle. I am trying really hard to improve my attitude about work and to be thankful for the job I have. Maybe I expect too much?

Isaac is in a leadership development program at Eaton Corporation. He is doing 3 separate 8 month rotations and will finish his final one in July. We thought he'd have a permanent job in the place he works now (in Research Triangle Park--RTP). But that may not be the case. So, we'll just have to wait and see. Thankfully, he will have a job some place... I just hope it's reasonably local.

So, I am sending out prayers and love to those of you who are experiencing job stress. I know that God cares a great deal about the birds of the air, so he cares even MORE about us (Matthew 6). Also praying that God will help us to worry less and trust that He is in control and will always provide for our needs... those relating to jobs and otherwise.

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself." (Matthew 6:33-34a)

God absolutely cares for us and walks every step of this life with us. Alan's job loss has been a time of great reminders of God's sovereignty and provision - constant provision - in our lives.
